Feedback From: 14th

Our feedback from the 14th December was a B+ which was really positive news and we upped our game to do better than our last feedback but there was just minor polishes that needed to be made and could easily be achieved, for example just turning the privatisation on the videos to public which was easily accomplished and just a few more posts to keep up to date with what we were doing. As you can tell we have annotated on this one and are really happy that we could reach a potential A standard, as this is what we hoped for.

Magazine Cover Editing Process

We choose our final idea for our magazine cover, this entails us using 'Little White Lies' as the magazine company, with Gothel on the magazine front cover posing in a very sinister pose,  she will be hooded and the hood will be covering her eyes creating a shadow. We will enhance key features such as, her red lips, pale white skin and black hair, we will also be accentuating the red cape to make it look brighter and highlighted. For the background we will have it off-white with a shadowed square on the outer corners, a bit like a drop shadow. We will also be adding the effect of Andy Warhol and dotted effect seen on instagram.

The first process was to take the photos of Meliz as Gothel, here are the variations we choose.
We opted for picture number 4, as it had a more mysterious, sinister, gritty look which is what we wanted to go for and it looked as if it could be on this magazine cover.

After choosing our photograph, we then went on to editing. Using the quick selection tool we got rid of the background to see what it would look like and to place on top of the new background. This is what it look like with the potential chosen background.

After establishing this we had to change our canvas size to an A4 size paper, which was easy enough and done properly. As we wanted a dotted effect on top, we went on filter, pixelate to colour halftone where we then chose the degrees we wanted to have the effect.
After doing this, we decided to experiment with the colour background by disaturating it to black and white. This then allowed us to then use the gradient tool on a new layer and multiplying it and changing the opacity. We also tried to look at it without any effects and the original colours we used.

We decided to stick with original look of the magazine cover as we think that would display the best effects. We also decided to crop the top part off as it looked really bare and we wanted to keep it really simple and not cluttered, so we opted for this option.

To finish things off, we decided to add the title in a white font to make it look really chic and sophisticated and used the font Trajan Pro and also manipulating the way it would be laid out by incorporating the arc detail. And also we decreased the opacity to 75 points making it look more subtle and mysterious.

We felt that there was something missing in terms of the background so we decided to add some texture and see what was prominent in the two pieces of coursework we have previously made. The main thing we got from it was either the hair or the flower which was not compatible and it made it look immature and tacky, so the next aspect we got was from the location, such as the woods and we added a background picture of ivy on a tree; this is the result of it.

Magazine Drawing Examples

We sketch out a few and varied magazine covers using the different types of magazines, below are the outcomes.

Magazine Inspirations

Here is our Prezi which highlights the possible magazine covers that we could choose from after Mr Go showing us and displaying what each one entails

Final Poster

Here is our final outcome...

Poster Editing

For our film poster we firstly decided to screen shot two images from our filming.
background

Foreground

Using the quick selection tool, we got rid of the background of the foreground leaving just her, with her red cape. Also using the refine edge tool to make sure everything looked neat. And placed a colour overlay to brighten the redness of the cape.

We then placed this back onto the one we wanted to use and we cropped the size of the original background to stop the greenery interfering with the tower.
We edited the background of the poster. We, at first, quick selected the sky and set the contrast darker, which we quite liked, however, it left the image quite pixelated so then leaving that as it was we put in the gradient tool and selected the circular one to create an eerie atmosphere.

After doing that, we then decided to add the extra detail in which was the titles. Using our chosen font 'Elementary Gothic Bookhand' we added the film title, tag line, dates and info with the effects of a drop shadow, Bevel and Emboss and a gradient overlay to enhance the films genre type.

After this, we wanted to add extras such as other pictures, this included one of the main aspects of the film which was the hair and the flower. We fiddled around with it for quite a while and finally decided to place it with the tag line. However, we had to lighten the opacity, yet, it still looked effective. We also incorporated stars for the reviews, the Disney logo and the Palm D'or Film Festival logo. And this was the final added details.

Poster Drawing Ideas

From looking at the inspirations we have decided to implement them in to our initial ideas.

Poster Inspirations

As our poster is a real life prequel version of a very successful animated Disney film 'Tangled' we had to research the possible out comes of our poster. As our film is not the conventional fairylike film, as it is much more darker with magical or supernatural elements we looked at the original "Tangled" film poster, "Red Riding Hood" which is based upon the childhood tale and the book turned to film "Coraline" which is one of the most spooky, eerie and creepy animated children's film. We also looked at the movie still from the up and coming movie "Maleficent" which is set to be released in 2013/14.

Tangled:

We liked this particular Tangled movie poster because it shows the major and key aspects of the movie clearly and we know from the start it will be about these two characters, the two protagonists and the romantic couple and their mischievous look shows that they possibly are on a mission for something, however, they do not look like the evil antagonistic character.
The Tangled Title looks young, fresh and fun which is always relevant and current for their target audience.
Also, the production company logos are discreetly hidden on either sides of the poster, not distracting the audiences focus.
Obviously, what we appreciated the most was that the whole point of the film is about the hair, which is weaved in and incorporated as though they are hiding behind it which makes the movie look interesting and lighter.

Coraline:

With the Coraline poster, what we really appreciated and wanted to consider in our own poster was the subtle and tiny amount of references that are throughout the film and book that are included in the title and background, for example, the buttons are implemented in the 'o' for 'Coraline' and in the moon slightly for added texture. Her cat is there walking with her as well as on the 'l' in her name. The midnight setting gives away the genre of it being a fantasy horror story. The main house in the background is also essential as that is where the whole story begins from when she moves into the house and starts her own Coraline world.

Red Riding Hood:

For this movie poster we really liked the dull, dark and dreary forest background contrasting against the red hooded cape which neatly stood out, we also like that around the edge it was curved dark so it looked like a spotlight effect, or this shadowy misty effect so we just solely concentrated on the centre part or the image. The font used was really stand out too complimenting the red cape and this idea of a bloody effect. The placements of each title was structured very well too and every sentenced left you feeling intrigued.

Maleficent:

This still of the up and coming movie is really captivating and it draws and pays attention to every detail that is going on, this has been translated from the animated movie very well. The sculpted cheekbones, the contact lenses, red lips and head gear not only is a good resemblance to the animated version but it also highlights that this is about her and her corruptness and the portrait clearly identifies this.

Final Trailer

Here it is!!!  Enjoy...

Editing Process

In the editing process, we had to firstly edit Schedule 1 scenes which is the second sequence of our teaser trailer. This was 19 minutes worth of footage; we had to eliminate all the unsteady, wrong and undesirable shots from this. Some were more obvious than others so we had to do this a few times in order to fit it into roughly 40 seconds, ensuring it caused suspense, thrill, adrenaline and anticipation. So, there was a lot of re-ordering and trimming needed.

The second part of editing was really time consuming because the first time round we filmed the first action sequence, Schedule 2, went utterly and completely wrong due to the many interferences; these included electrical faults, lighting and furnishings. Therefore, this had to be redone in Schedule 3 where all the shots and action were relatively carried out precisely, efficiently and successfully. Having done it like this, there was no need to do much editing as it was initially recorded in the other we wanted. All we had to do was choose from one shot between another and shorten the timing.

As this part of the trailer was meant to be a memory from Gothel's past, we all decided to make it look more dream and vintage like by changing the video effect to glow as it gave that distant memory effect and old-school vibe.

We had to make sure where and when we would place our titles of the tagline in order to break down the second sequence neatly, sophisticatedly and professionally; otherwise, it would look too repetitive. This was done with ease as there were certain places that needed a slight breakdown of pace and as a result of including these titles, it heightens the atmosphere and mystery.

We added the titles via the text selection from iMovie and by downloading our font. We could easily manipulate certain features, such as the effect 'Soft Edge', the colour white, the size and how long it would last for, which were all very helpful.

Sound Development

Sound Development  was an essential part of our trailer and we did not realise how important it was, only to then go out and thoroughly find good music for the second half of the teaser trailer.
We combined and mixed two of the sound tracks together to enhance the creepiness and spookiness atmosphere to pump up the adrenaline of her running away or of her running to find the tower. We had to make sure when to place this correctly so it was in tune with what was going on in the action and so cutting and editing the timing was crucial, however this was successful achieved.
Below this is what it looked like.

Production Company & Film Titles Construction

Production Company Title:

We again changed the title of our production company to "Expensive Red Productions" after finding a moving icon image from a tumblr website and we didn't go with the majority vote in class because we couldn't decide a background and it would be too difficult for us; we thought this would be ideal as it represents feminine and chic touches. Below is the icon:

We then filmed it via the computer screen and then on to a Quicktime file to then import on to iMovies to edit the clip so we only get the three main poses that the lady presents.

After completing that, we need to put the title logo name on, we chose the font 'Riesling' as it fit the criteria of being feminine but fiery at the same time.

Then we had download the font on the school computer for us to put it in our trailer. Luckily with the effect 'lower third' we wanted to have that incorporates text allowed us to use the font and change the colour to red and change the sizing too.

Film Title:

We still wanted to still with our initial idea of having the hair and then the film title appear from no where and expand, however, with such little time and it being really hard we couldn't have the hair be animated so it looked like it blew. So we decided to leave it there and just have the title be animated still.

First of all we separated the text from the background and then added the picture of the background of just the hair on to iMovies and edit is for around 4 seconds.

We then placed the title picture on top of the clip from iPhotos  and used the Ken Burns effect for it to start from small to big, which is what we intended.

Then, we had to download the font we had originally wanted Elementary Gothic Bookhand, and use the text effect 'soft edge' like beforehand in the production company logo one, changed the size and left the font white for our other clips for the dates, tagline and contact links.
